OpenAI Wants Its API Format to Become the Industry Standard

OpenAI has introduced "Open Responses," an open‑source interface that standardizes request and response formats across language models from multiple providers. The initiative builds on OpenAI’s Responses API and aims to let developers write code once and run it on any model, eliminating the need for provider‑specific rewrites. Major platforms such as Vercel, Hugging Face, LM Studio, Ollama and vLLM have already joined the effort. If widely adopted, Open Responses could make OpenAI’s API the de‑facto industry standard, forcing rivals to conform.
