Regular Sex Is Linked to Fewer Daily Menopause Symptoms, Survey Finds
A cross‑sectional survey of more than 4,000 Japanese women aged 40‑79 found that those who reported sexual intercourse within the past three months experienced fewer daily genitourinary menopause symptoms such as dryness, irritation and pelvic pain. The analysis compared 716 women with recent activity to 195 who were sexually active only earlier in the year and showed significantly lower odds of everyday discomfort after adjusting for age, menopausal status and hormone therapy. Pain and dryness during intercourse itself did not differ between groups. Researchers caution that the design cannot prove causation, but the association suggests a possible protective role of regular intimacy.
