Self‑driving Demo Shows Learned Competence, Not Scripted Automation

Keep coming back to this demo because it does something rare: It looks boring... in the best possible way. A vehicle drives itself around a facility, makes reasonable choices, and reaches a waypoint without any visible choreography. No dramatic edge cases or overexplaining. It behaves the way you would expect a human to behave if you dropped them there and said “go over there”. That is the signal. The model is not following a map or a rule set. It is operating in its local frame, interpreting terrain, paths, and context the same way people do. The fact that it naturally stays to one side of the road when it makes sense is not a feature. It is a consequence of how it was trained. This feels less like automation and more like learned competence. The interesting part is not the camera-only setup. It is the restraint.
