Researchers have introduced a supercurrent‑engineering technique that uses side control wires to sculpt the current density in superconducting thin‑film strips, eliminating edge crowding. By solving the London and Ginzburg‑Landau equations, they demonstrated inverted profiles with edge dips that suppress vortex penetration even when strip widths exceed the magnetic Pearl length. The approach permits in‑situ tuning of detector sensitivity through the control‑wire current, enabling single‑photon detectors and superconducting diodes far wider than conventional designs. Sensitivity ultimately hinges on vortex‑antivortex pair unbinding rather than geometric constraints.
