Many people still believe you need to publish research to succeed in AI. That might’ve been true a few years ago, but things have changed 👇 I’ve done research during my Master’s and PhD. Most of my work never made it to big conferences, and I eventually left before finishing my first major publication. Yet I’ve still built my career entirely around AI - teaching, consulting, and building products every day. Publishing papers helps if you want to work in large research labs like DeepMind or OpenAI. But that’s just one narrow path. The majority of valuable work in AI today happens outside academia, inside startups and independent teams turning research into usable tools. Academia often makes the first steps - testing new ideas, optimizing models or proving a concept. But startups are where those ideas actually become products. Look at Cursor, Windsurf, LangChain, or LlamaIndex. None of them came out of universities. They started as small experiments that evolved into core infrastructure for how people use LLMs today. I think that’s the real shift: innovation is no longer just about publishing. It’s about building something that works, that people use, and that moves the field forward in practice. You don’t need a paper to contribute to AI. You need curiosity, a few good ideas, and the courage to turn them into something real.
The notion that AGI would have infinite returns has been used to justify investment far above expected returns (by 10x-100x) for technology that is neither AGI nor on the path to AGI

I use Typeless daily on my Mac, and it's become the only dictation tool I trust. I tried many others, but none of them stuck. And now @typelessdotcom just launched on Product Hunt 🎉 Pls show them some love for the launch 🫶 https://t.co/4miuD4BGBT
We're living through a moment where AI confidence is soaring, but the foundations needed to support that confidence are still worryingly uneven. I shared my views with DIGIT last week about new IDC findings, and one insight in particular has stayed...

The rate reduction in price per unit of intelligence has been thing I've most consistently underestimated the past couple of years. 300x in a year is nuts!

VLA's are like LLMs, but trained off of videos. I call them world models, because I don't like acronyms, but either way, they mean robots are getting smarter fast. The researchers I hung out with last week say that robots...
I’m starting to get into a habit of reading everything (blogs, articles, book chapters,…) with LLMs. Usually pass 1 is manual, then pass 2 “explain/summarize”, pass 3 Q&A. I usually end up with a better/deeper understanding than if I moved...

New Grok. Less slop. This is important because this new model will be running the algorithm here on X soon. Or at least a lightweight version therein. And it will be running so many other things, particularly Tesla's Robotaxi network....
Leaders are discovering the hard way that "plug-and-play AI" is mostly a myth. The tech may look polished, but the real work begins where the glossy demo ends. This new episode of AI in Action breaks down why so many teams...

Goodbye Midjourney, I'm with Grok Imagine now. Needed a graphic with an abstract representation of an LLM. Got a perfect one in one shot. Then was asked if I want to animate. Got this, complete with sound: https://t.co/GHIRLBdBlQ
You can measure a team’s values in the smallest interactions. The wording. The timing. The defaults. AI just amplifies those choices.
The myth is that AI replaces expertise. The truth is that it punishes fake expertise. It reveals who was guessing and who was actually thinking.
I’m seeing candidates with incredible work backgrounds destroying their chances at getting hired because they sound like mindless robots. Before you use AI in your job applications and interviews (which I’m largely against unless it’s edits or asked for), consider...
Anyone would be down to create a "Live-translator app" for Reachy Mini, aka reachy mini recognizes two faces and acts as a translator between the two looking at each one alternatively (just like a human translator would do)? @matth_lapeyre has...
