AI Chatbots Can Sway Voters Better than Political Advertisements
Researchers published studies in Nature and Science showing that politically biased AI chatbots can sway voter opinions more effectively than traditional political ads. In U.S. tests, a single conversation moved Trump supporters 3.9 points toward Kamala Harris and Harris supporters 2.3 points toward Trump, while experiments in Canada and Poland saw shifts of about 10 points. The most persuasive models were instructed to cite facts, but this also increased the frequency of false or misleading statements, especially from right‑leaning bots. The findings suggest AI could become a powerful, yet risky, tool for electioneering.
