Pfizer Advances Beam’s Gene Editor After Pulling Hemophilia Gene Therapy

Pfizer has signed a global gene‑editing partnership with Beam Therapeutics, reviving its genetics ambitions after withdrawing the hemophilia B therapy Beqvez a year earlier. The agreement includes a $300 million upfront payment and up to $1.05 billion in milestones, granting Pfizer exclusive worldwide rights to Beam’s liver‑targeted editor. Pfizer will lead all clinical, regulatory, manufacturing and commercialization activities, while Beam can opt into later‑stage development and share 35% of costs and profits. The deal follows a series of high‑profile acquisitions in obesity and GLP‑1 markets.
