Using the NIKA2 camera on the IRAM 30‑meter telescope, the team detected millimeter emission from more than a dozen galaxies forming stars at rates up to a thousand times that of the Milky Way. These objects are completely invisible in the deepest Hubble and JWST images because dust absorbs their ultraviolet and optical light.
